We're Going to be Friends - The White Stripes
fall is here,
hear the yell back to school,
ring the bell brand new shoes,
walking blues climb the fence,
book and pens i can tell that we are gonna be friends walk with me,
suzy lee through the park,
by the tree we will rest upon the ground and look at all the bugs we've found
then safely walk to school without a sound
well here we are,
no one else we walked to school all by ourselves
there's dirt on our uniforms from chasing all the ants and worms
we clean up and now it's time to learn
numbers, letters, learn to spell
nouns, and books, and show and tell
at playtime we will throw the ball back to class,
through the hall teacher marks our height against the wall
and we don't notice any time pass
we don't notice anything
we sit side by side in every class
teacher thinks that i sound funny but she likes the way you sing
tonight i'll dream while i'm in bed
when silly thoughts go through my head about the bugs and alphabet
and when i wake tomorrow
i'll bet that you and i will walk together again
cause i can tell that we are going to be friends
Play-A-Day (Day 17)
Lights up on small boys room where there are toys scattered all around. Toy story posters are plastered all over the wall of the room and in the middle there is a boy who is sleeping in bed. The alarm clock on top of his night stand is at 6:59 and a few moments later it flashes 7:00 and an alarm begin to beep. The boy awakes and quickly shuts the alarm off and stands but upon looking at his bookbag he cowardly returns to his bed under the covers where he remains. Lights fade. Lights come back up on the clock showing 7:30. the alarm once again begins to sound. This time the boy's mother comes upstairs and whips the covers off of him and shuts the alarm off.
Mother
Billy, get up or you're going to be late!
Billy
Mom can't i just stay home today?
Mother
Why do you want to stay home Billy?
Billy
[Not sure of what to say] I just don't really think today's going to be a good day.
Mother
Well i can tell you that if you stay home it won't be a good day because you'll be cleaning your room all day. Now get outa bed and get to school. You're going to have to walk today. Now get to it
Mother exits and leaves the boy to begin getting ready. Lights fade. Lights come up on the street where the mother has walked Billy to.
Billy
Mom please, can i stay home?
Mother
Billy I already told you. Now get to school. Look [Pointing over to the other side of the stage] One of your little friends. You two can walk to school together.
Billy
But mom I don't even know her
Mother exits offstage before Billy even finishes. Billy stands awkwardly alone at the edge of the road for a while as the person that his mother had pointed to walks onstage. Her name is Jamie and she is the same age as Billy and has a shy look about her. She doesn't notice Billy at first until she get's closer and stops in hesitance. Billy looks towards her then nervously begins to walk offstage.
Jamie
[Stepping forward] Hi.
Billy stops moving away.
Billy
[Turning about to her] Hi.
Jamie
My names Jamie [Moving towards Billy with her hand extended]
Billy
[Moving towards her cautiously] My names Billy
Jamie
Nice to meet you Billy [Smiling at him]
Billy
You too. So are you new here?
Jamie
Yes my family just moved in this past weekend
Billy
Oh that's cool
Jamie
Yeah, I guess. I didn't really want to go to school today. But now that i've met someone I'm glad I did.
Billy
[Flashing a slight smile] Yeah I didn't really want to go to school either. But here I am. My mom made me.
Jamie
Oh well why didn't you want to come to school?
Billy
[Shyly] Because I don't really have any friends.
Jamie
Oh I'm sure that you have some friends
Billy
No I really don't.
Jamie
Well I'll be your friend
Billy
[Smiling] Really?
Jamie
Of course. Now come on let's get to school before we've late.
They exit offstage. Lights fade

Marching Bands Of Manhattan - Death Cab For Cutie
Marching Bands Over Manhattan - Death Cab For Cutie
If I could open my arms
And span the length of the isle of Manhattan,
I'd bring it to where you are
Making a lake of the East River and Hudson
If I could open my mouth
Wide enough for a marching band to march out
They would make your name sing
And bend through alleys and bounce off all the buildings.
I wish we could open our eyes
To see in all directions at the same time
Oh what a beautiful view
If you were never aware of what was around you
And it is true what you said
That I live like a hermit in my own head
But when the sun shines again
I'll pull the curtains and blinds to let the light in.
Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole
Just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound
But while you debate half empty or half full
It slowly rises, your love is gonna drown
Your love is gonna drown
Your love is gonna...
Play-A-Day (Day 17)
Lights up on a boardwalk setting where a boy and girl are sitting on the railing looking out at the sea. They are sitting closer together than normal people would but there is a distance between them. They both appear internally conflicted over something similar. The next to lines are from inside of the charactors minds.
Boy
What is wrong with this. This should be such a magical thing. I mean who could ask for a better setting. Yet all i can find myself thinking of is being somewhere else. [Looking to the girl] It's not like i'm not attracted to her or anything. It's just i don't care i guess. At least not right now. I just wish i could know what she was thinking and how she really felt maybe that would solidify this.
Girl
[Looking to the boy] I wonder what is going on inside of there. Something obviously has his attention. He's barely spoken two words to me the whole time we've been here. I wonder if i could have done something wrong. Come on think. Is there something you might have done recently that would have upset him? I don't think so. But how can i know. Oh i wish we could just verbalize all of what's in our minds. It would make everything so much easier. [Rubbing her arms] Great now it's starting to get cold out here.
Boy notices she's getting cold and takes off his jacket and hands it to her.
Boy and Girl
Maybe there is hope...
Girl places her head on the boys should. He places his arm around her. Lights fade

Girlfriend - Eve 6
Girlfriend - Eve 6
Your really gone, girlfriend
The dryer's on, Amen
And im alone for the first time(I walk away now)
You left a sock, girlfriend
Wheres the pair, broken
Are you aware that im missing you(I walk away now)
but I cant run to you no more
to catch me when im falling
I know I have to let you go
But I will not be broken
No I will not be broken
But keep the slow fading memories
This place is strange, empty
You did your time, plenty
And the walls are bare where your pictures hung
But I cant call you up no more
And no we cant just be friends
but now its time to let you go
but I will not be broken
no I will not be broken
and keep the slowly fading
memories memories
I'm keeping these memories
I cant run to you no more
to catch me when im fallin
I know I have to let you go
But I will not be broken
For ever tear a lesson learned
Every good time golden
But now its time to let you go
And I will not be broken
And I will not be broken
No I will not be broken
But keep the slowly fading memories
Play-A-Day (Day 15)
Lights up on a studio apartment. In the apartment the walls at near random have light patches consistant with the size of picture frames. In one corner of the room a dryer is running with a load of laundry in it. The room is clean and tidy. The ceiling fan in the room is off but has obviously just been turned off recently with its slow turning continually getting slower. Everything in the room looks too little to be in the room. The room itself appears large and more or less barely filled if that. The bed in the room is perfectly made and on top of it is a recording tape with a sticky reading "Play me" on it. The needs to have an aura of emptiness in it. On a nightstand sits and answering machine with a tape already in it. It is blinking red with a message on it. On top of a computer desk is a stereo with a cassette player. Sleeping in a small animal bed is Jessie (a cat) who sleeps soundly oblivious to the world around. At the foot of the dryer rests a single small sock with a pink heel. No one is in the room at first (except the cat) until after a little while a young man enters. He looks around the room at shock in first. Not expecting to see the room so empty upon his arrival. He looks around causiously at first but seeing no one is there he relaxes a bit. Then he walks over the the washing machine and notices the sock on the floor and picks it up and places it on the top of the washing machine. He then turns back to the room and notices the tape on the bed and walks over to it with a certain curiousity. He sees the note on top of it without a name on it and he then places it into the stereo and as it begins he moves over and picks up Jessie the cat and pets her while checking through stuff as the tape begins. It is a young womans voice
Voice
If you're hearing this then chances are we won't ever see each other again. I know you're probably asking yourself what exactly is going on...but i think the best way to go about this is with as little information as possible. Oh and don't worry about the dryer i'll be back to pick it all up sometime while you're gone. Please understand this is for the best for both of us. I truly am sorry. Goodbye.
The young man is by this point sitting on his bed with the cat stroking it softly. He then lays down in the bed filled with a sense of defeat. As he lies down a beep is heard and he jumps and the cat runs away. He then sees the noise is from the answering machine which has a message on it. He plays the message. It is a mans voice.
Mans voice
Hey baby you packed yet. I'm waiting down here freezing my ass off. I've got all my stuff unpacked in the apartment now it just needs you hot little...
The young man grabs and throws the answering machine to the flew breaking it. Lights fade

Choke on This - Senses Fail
Choke on This - Senses Fail
Half smoked cigarettes and you're that trash that infests my sheets
Can't make a wife out of a whore, don't want your skin on me
And you're, you're addicted to the drug of lust
A de-tox in the cold sweat of shame and I love your pain
I gave you these roses now but I left in the thorns
I'd rather hurt someone than hurt myself
I'll dispose of you like a lighter out of fuel
I'll lose you somewhere on a dusty shelf
So this love's been worn down, like songs on a tape
The sex has lost all of its fun, like gum loses taste
And you're, you're addicted to the drug of lust,
A de-tox in the cold sweat of shame and I love your pain
I gave you these roses now but I left in the thorns
I'd rather hurt someone than hurt myself
I'll dispose of you like a lighter out of fuel
I'll lose you somewhere on the shelf
I'm here lying in your bed babe
Remember what you said to me
"You can be my James Dean, I'll be your sweet queen"
I said that you were my first, but you weren't even close now
Like a frame in a movie, you're just one of many
Can you grant me one last wish
Play russian roulette as we kiss
I'll be your cheap novelty
Blow your brains out on me
I gave you these roses now but I left in the thorns
I'd rather hurt someone than hurt myself
I'll dispose of you like a lighter out of fuel
I'll lose you somewhere on the shelf
Play-A-Day (Day 14)
Lights up on a dump motel room. There is only one bed in the room and two people are asleep on it. Both are wearing little of no clothes. On the nightstand next to the bed there are still half smoked cigarettes burning in the ash tray. Clothes are littered haphazardly across the room as if they were discarded at random. There is a apatheticness to the young man in the bed. He is awake after a few moments and simply lays there eyes wide open. The young woman he is with then begins to stir and rolls over to his side and places her arm around him.
Woman
That was amazing, baby
Man
[Tossing her hand off him and stands up] Get off me.
Woman
Well arn't we in a sour mood this morning [She stands up with the sheet covering her body and moves to collect her clothes] You'd think you might be a little more polite to you're first time.
Man
Ha that's a joke
Woman
What?
Man
First time? ha that's a joke.
Woman
What are you talking about?
Man
What do you think I'm talking about. [Laughs]
The young woman looks rather shocked and frightened she the quickly gathers up the rest of her clothes and begins to dress and tries to ignore the young man.
Oh what's the matter now? [Picks up an article of her clothing and throws it at her] You were in such a rush to get them off last night.
Woman
Your a pig!
Man
What because you thought it was my first?
Woman
No because it was mine!
Man
Oh...Well looks like it was my lucky night.
Woman
[Nearly dressed now gather the rest of her stuff in her hands and walks offstage] Fuck you!
Man
[Calling after her] Been there done that!
He picks up his cigarette and begins to smoke it and flips on the TV. Lights fade

Beautiful Disaster - Jon Mclaughlin
Beautiful Distaster - Jon Mclaughin
She loves her mama's lemonade,
Hates the sound that goodbyes make.
She prays one day she'll find someone to need her.
She swears that there's no difference,
Between the lies and compliments.
It's all the same if everybody leaves her.
And every magazine tells her she's not good enough,
The pictures that she sees make her cry.
And she would change everything, everything just ask her.
Caught in the in between, a beautiful disaster,
And she just needs someone to take her home.
She's giving boys what they want, tries to act so nonchalant,
Afraid they'll see that she's lost her direction.
She never stays the same for long,
Assuming that she'll get it wrong.
Perfect only in her imperfections.
She's not a drama queen,
She doesn't want to feel this way, only seventeen but tired
She would change everything for happy ever after.
Caught in the in between, a beautiful disaster,
But she just needs someone to take her home.
Cuz she's just the way she is, but no ones told her that's ok.
And she would change everything, everything just ask her.
Caught in the in between of beautiful disaster,
And she would change everything for happy ever after.
Caught in the in between of beautiful disaster,
But she just needs someone to take her home
And she just needs someone to take her home.
Play-A-Day (Day 13)
Lights up on a highschool hallway. In the hallway there is a young boy (Adam) and his glasses wearing friend (Jake) standing next to a locker talking when a girl (Ashley) enters. With her is an older looking boy. She has an ashamed look on her face and her and the older boy then quickly slip offstage into the "bathroom". Before she exits offstage she glances quickly at Adam with the look of someone who wishes she were somewhere else. Adam has been watching her the whole time she has been onstage and completely ignored all that Jake had been saying. Once Ashley is offstage Adam keeps looking at the direction that Ashley had gone offstage and a look of sadness and disgust cross his face and he quickly slams his locker shut with a loud bang. This whole time Jake has been trying to get the attention of Adam who has been preoccupied with Ashley. Jake takes a couple of steps back as Adam slams the locker shut.
Adam
[Bursting out still not paying much attention to Jake] This is a load of shit!
Jake
Dude! what world on you on? Have you heard a single word I've said to you in the past 5 minutes?
Adam
[Still ignorant to Jake] Why is she going in there with some asshole like that?
Jake
[Confused] Where? What asshole?
Adam
[Annoyed] You really are blind arn't you [Flicking Jakes glasses] Ashley just walked into the bathroom with that prick Micheal!
Jake
[Unsure of the significance] So? What's that to you? Just lets her fit in all the better with the rest of her whore friends.
Adam
[Angered] You know what Jake, shut up. You don't know her.
Jake
[Laughing, with ridicule in his voice] Oh and what you do?
Adam
[Longingly] Well enough.
Jake
[More understanding] Look, dude, just give it up. That's just the type of girl she is. That's not what you want is it?
Adam
[Explaining] But that's the thing, she's not like that. I know you don't believe me but I know. Something about her doesn't fit in with other girls. She isn't like them.
Jake
Dude that's just what she wants you to think.
The bell rings throughout the stage signalling it's time to get to class.
Look man I gotta get to class Peter's will kill me if I'm late again. I'll see ya later
Places his hand upon Adams shoulder to try to get some reaction from him. Just as he does this Micheal exits the bathroom and zips himself up. Adams attention solely focuses on the area where the bathroom door is. Jake realizes this shakes his head and walks offstage. Micheal walks past where Adam is standing and bumps into Adam
Micheal
Watch out you little bitch.
Adam backs out of the way against the locker and out of Micheals way. Micheal then exits offstage. Adam stands where he is for a while. A soft crying sound is heard from the direction of the bathroom and it catches Adams attention. Adam slowly inches his way towards the door and after looking around for a moment opens the door and as he stands in the door way.
Adam
Are you ok? [Adam is already entering the room as he says having seen Ashley and only finishes what he is saying out of trivality]
Adam enters the room. Lights fade

Lights fade

What Sarah Said - Death Cab For Cutie
What Sarah Said - Death Cab For Cutie
And it came to me then that every plan is a tiny prayer to father time
As I stared at my shoes in the ICU that reeked of piss and 409
And I rationed my breaths as I said to myself that I'd already taken too much today
As each descending peak on the LCD took you a little farther away from me
Away from me
Amongst the vending machines and year-old magazines in a place where we only say goodbye
It stung like a violent wind that our memories depend on a faulty camera in our minds
But I knew that you were a truth I would rather lose than to have never lain beside at all
And I looked around at all the eyes on the ground as the TV entertained itself
'Cause there's no comfort in the waiting room
Just nervous pacers bracing for bad news
And then the nurse comes round and everyone will lift their heads
But I'm thinking of what Sarah said that "Love is watching someone die"
So who's going to watch you die?..
Play-A-Day (Day 13)
Lights up on a living room setting of a middle class couple in there mid to late twenties. Their is no one in the room but a phone begins to ring and then a voice is heard explaining that one Sarah was in a certain hospital after an accident. The room is set up on either the left or the right of the stage leaving room for another small separate room on the other side of the stage. After a moment a man walks in, Jason, he is carrying with him a bag opf groceries which he begins to place into their respective locations in the room. In the middle of this he see there is a message on the answering machine and switches it on. The first message that plays is just an employer calling to remind him about a file that is needed. Jason erases that message once it has finished. The next message is the one about Sarah. As it plays lights slowly come up on the opposite side of the stage in a medical room where Sarah is lying on a bed in the hospital. She is badly beaten up and the beep of her heart rate is steady but slow. There are two or three people around her. As it begins to play Jason doesn't fully comprehend what is going on as he is only half listening. The moment it says she was in an accident however Jason drops whatever he is holding and moves over to the phone and listens to the rest of the message intently. Once it has finished he replays it again. Then once more. The last time while it is playing he sicks into the couch in the middle of the room. He then picks up a picture of Sarah and him that is on the table in front of him. He holds it tenderly in his hands.
Jason
[To the picture] How could this happen to you?... Why did this happen to you? What did you ever do wrong?... [A pause] I'm coming for you.
Jason exits offstage and lights fade from the room he was in but remain up on the room Sarah is in. Jason then enters.
Jason
Sarah!...Oh Sarah what happened?
Sarah
[Weak and barely able to speak] Jason...I was worried...that...that...you...might not...
Jason
Shh shh... you rest right now. Save your strength. Whatever it is you can tell me when you're stronger.
They both remain silent for the next few moment with Jason holding Sarahs hand and stroking her hair. Sarah then breaks the silence
Sarah
[Weakly] Remember what I told you about love?
Jason
[A little teary eyed] No what about love?
Sarah
Love is watching someone die...
Jason
[Breaking down] No...Sarah...Sarah your not dying...your going to be ok
Sarah
[Reaching up and touching Jason on the cheek] It's ok...I know that you love me...that's all I need
The heart moniter then fails and nurses and docters rush in pulling Jason away from Sarah who stands by helplessly watching Sarah die. Lights fade

Existentialism On Prom Night - Straylight Run
Existentialism On Prom Night - Straylight Run
When the sun came up, We were sleeping in,
Sunk inside our blankets,Sprawled across the bed,
And we were dreaming, There are moments when,
When I know it and the world revolves around us,
And we're keeping it, Keep it all going,
This delicate balance, Vulnerable all knowing,
Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this, Just a little bit, Just a little bit,
You would kill for this
Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this, Just a little bit, Just a little bit,
You would, you would...
Sing me something soft, Sad and delicate, Or loud and out of key,
Sing me anything, we're glad for what we've got,
Done with what we've lost
Our whole lives laid out right in front of us,
Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this, Just a little bit, Just a little bit, You would,
Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this, Just a little bit, Just a little bit, You would, you would....
Sing me something soft, Sad and delicate, Or loud and out of key, Sing me anything.
Play-A-Day (Day 12)
Lights up on a peaceful bedroom. The room is in pristine condition and is nearly spotless. The lights off the side of the stage give the impression the sun is just rising. At the center of the stage is a young couple lying in bed together. This couple can be of any sexual orientation. As the offstage lights give the effect of the sun one of the two begins to rise and walks over to the other and softly kisses he/she/it on the head and then turns and ventures offstage and is offstage for about five minutes. About a minute into this the other person begins to stir and slowly awakes and after he/she/it looks around and sees that their partner is gone he/she/it goes offstage on the other side of the stage and when he/she/it comes back this person is wearing a bathrobe and walks back to the bed and sits down and reaches into the night stand on that side and pulls out a pair of glasses and places them upon his/her/its head. The one who had been offstage now return and is carrying in a breakfast tray over to his/her/its partner.
One
I made you breakfast [Smiling cheerfully]
Two
I couldn't tell [Standing to kiss him/her/it on the lips and then does]
One
Now you sit down and eat this delicious meal I made you.
Two
[Laying down in bed with the tray overlapping] Well alright then [Begins to eat the wonderous meal set forth]
One
[Laying down on the opposite side of the bed leaning over staring towards the other] You know how perfect this is? I woke up this morning and saw that sun and for a moment could have sworn I was in heaven, seeing you there beside me with such absolute pristine beauty around us.
Two
[Gently looking over] I know what you mean. I can't think of much more perfect. [Smiling tenderly]
One
I love you, you know that.
Two
I do. [Quietly] Sing me something soft sad and delicate or loud and out of key...sing me anything
One then begins to softly sing to two as the lights begin to fade. Lights out
